Primera parada Madrid (first stop Madrid)
You can almost taste the briny green olive garnishing that first glass of bittersweet Vermut which awaits in one of Madrid's traditional Vermuterias.
Just a few days until the Spanish adventure begins. Here's a little preview of what's on the menu:
Madrid - first stop is La Capital for local markets, traditional Madrileño tapas bars, daily observance of "la hora del vermut" the city's sacred aperitivo hour and general meanderings through it's eclectic barrios and outdoors spaces with time set aside for art and architecture appreciation.
Almagro, Castilla La Mancha - heading South in search of the spirit of Don Quixote & Sancho Panza, we will have a day in the cultural heritage town of Almagro, also a centre for Spanish theatre.
Sevilla - Andalucia's capital city where we will collect local azulejos (ceramic tiles) for a very special future Casita Miro project, seek out the very best Andaluz classics for menu inspiration and day trips to Granada and Cordoba.
Cadiz - our gateway to the hallowed Triangle of Sherry. Visits to old friends whose wines we have been serving since Casita Miro was established as well as some new discoveries, whose wines may well be gracing our list in the near future. El Puerto de Santa Maria, Jerez de la Frontera & Sanlucar de Barrameda - all three key towns are covered. Flamenco in the Tabancos of Jerez and tasting the very best local seafood: in-season Almadrava Tuna, Carabinero prawns from Sanlucar and more.
Our next instalment will be coming to you direct from Madrid with the full lowdown on the very best local tapas bars, vermuterias (and the best vermuts), the search for Madrid's best tortilla de patatas (Bodega de la Ardosa pictured above is a strong contender) and some of the city's vibrant markets.
It all begins at El Oso y el Medroño, the famous statue of The Bear and Strawberry Tree where we will be gathering at 12pm on Monday the 2nd of June.
